Dubai – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest ODI player rankings before the champions trophy, bringing a major shift at the top. As the Champions Trophy 2025 kicks off, Pakistan captain Babar Azam has suffered his first major setback, losing his position as the No. 1 ODI batsman.
According to the rankings before the champions trophy, India’s Shubman Gill has claimed the No. 1 spot in the ODI batting rankings, while Pakistan’s Babar Azam has dropped to second place. Gill now has 796 ranking points, whereas Babar has 773.

In the updated rankings:
India’s Rohit Sharma is third.
South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen has moved up to fourth.
New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has climbed two places to fifth.
Among Pakistani players:
Fakhar Zaman has dropped to 14th place.
Captain Mohammad Rizwan has gained six spots to reach 15th place.
ODI Bowlers Rankings
Sri Lanka’s Mahesh Theekshana is now the top-ranked bowler.
Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has slipped to second.
Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi has also dropped one spot to fifth.
New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner has climbed five places to seventh.
ODI All-Rounders Rankings
Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi continues to hold the No. 1 spot.

This news has come as a disappointment for Pakistani fans, as Babar had held the No. 1 position for a long time. However, cricket experts believe that if Babar delivers an outstanding performance in the Champions Trophy, he has a strong chance of reclaiming the top spot.
