Dubai: The four teams for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-finals have been decided. Afghanistan is out of the semi-final race, while South Africa has qualified from Group B. From Group A, India and New Zealand have secured their spots, while Australia and South Africa have qualified from Group B.
In the 11th match of the event, played in Karachi, as soon as South Africa bowled England out for 179, Afghanistan was eliminated from the semi-final race. Both South Africa and Afghanistan had three points each, but Afghanistan had a lower net run rate than South Africa.
For Afghanistan to surpass South Africa’s net run rate, South Africa would have needed to lose by at least 207 runs while chasing a target of 301. However, South African bowlers put on an impressive performance, dismissing England for just 179 runs, which eliminated any possibility of net run rate calculations. As a result, South Africa qualified for the semi-finals without any concern over match outcomes.
