Dubai: A heated exchange between Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and the selectors over Shreyas Iyer and the selection of a second wicketkeeper for the Champions Trophy has come to light.
According to media reports, these developments are not good news for the Indian camp ahead of the ICC event, as there seems to be a disconnect between the vision of the Indian selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, and the head coach.
“Harsh words were exchanged regarding the retention of Shreyas Iyer and the wicketkeeping options”
The report states that harsh words were exchanged regarding the retention of Shreyas Iyer and the wicketkeeping options. Notably, KL Rahul played all three ODIs in the home series against England, and Gambhir had already declared Rahul as his first-choice wicketkeeper, putting Rishabh Pant’s position at risk.
Meanwhile, the Indian team has arrived in the UAE to participate in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The Men in Blue will play all their matches in Dubai. The host team, Pakistan, will face India in a group match on Sunday, February 23, at the Dubai Stadium.
