WhatsApp has rolled out its first major feature of 2025, and it’s all about adding a splash of color to your chats. Meta has announced the introduction of colorful chat themes on WhatsApp—a feature already loved by Instagram and Facebook Messenger users. Now, iOS and Android users can enjoy customized chat bubbles and wallpapers, making every conversation visually unique.

“We heard you loud and clear! That’s why we’re bringing chat themes to WhatsApp—giving your chats a vibrant makeover with colorful bubbles and fresh wallpapers,” said Meta in an official statement.
Previously, users could only change the chat background and toggle between light and dark modes, but text bubble colors remained off-limits. Not anymore! With this update, users can change their chat bubble colors and choose from pre-set themes that transform both backgrounds and bubbles.

And that’s not all—WhatsApp is also offering 30 new wallpapers, or you can pick your favorite image from your photo library. Want a different theme for every chat? Go for it! Prefer one theme across all conversations? That works too! But here’s the kicker: only you will see your chosen themes—your chat buddies won’t have a clue what theme you’re using for their chats.
To dive into this colorful experience, head to WhatsApp settings, tap on ‘Chats,’ and then ‘Default Chat Theme.’ The rollout has already begun and will be available to users worldwide in the coming weeks. Get ready to give your WhatsApp chats a bold, new look!
