The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun implementing its new family policy for cricket tours, starting with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. According to Indian media reports, Indian cricket team players will travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the Champions Trophy without their families. No player will be allowed to bring family members along on the tour.
Indian Team to Depart for Dubai on February 15
The Indian team is set to depart for Dubai on February 15 to participate in the tournament. As per BCCI’s new family policy, players’ families can accompany them for up to two weeks only during tours exceeding 45 days.
No Families Allowed for Short Tours
A BCCI official, while speaking to the media, confirmed that players will not be allowed to bring their wives or partners for the upcoming tournament. The official added that when a senior player inquired about the policy, he was informed that the board would adhere strictly to the new guidelines. For tours shorter than a month, players are not permitted to travel with family members.
Exceptional Cases Require Self-Funding
The official also mentioned that in exceptional cases, players would need to bear all expenses for their families themselves. It is noteworthy that BCCI introduced this new family policy after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.
