Karachi: In the third match of the Champions Trophy, South Africa defeats Afghanistan by 107 runs. Chasing a target of 316 runs, the Afghan team was bowled out for 208.
In the match played in Karachi, South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 315 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
Afghanistan’s Chase
While chasing the 316-run target, Azmatullah Omarzai and Rashid Khan scored 18 runs each, while Rahmat Shah played an impressive innings of 90 runs, hitting 1 six and 9 fours. South African bowler Kagiso Rabada took 3 wickets, while Lungi Ngidi and Wiaan Mulder claimed 2 wickets each.
South Africa’s Batting Performance
Batting first, South Africa lost their first wicket at 28 runs when Tony de Zorzi was dismissed for 11. For the second wicket, Rassie van der Dussen and Temba Bavuma added 129 runs, before Bavuma got out for 58 at a total score of 157.
The third wicket fell at 201 when century-maker Rassie van der Dussen was run out after scoring 103 runs. South Africa’s fourth wicket fell at 248 when Heinrich Klaasen was caught out for 52. The fifth player to be dismissed was David Miller, who managed 14 runs.
The sixth and final wicket of the innings fell at a total of 299, with Marco Jansen getting out for zero. Aiden Markram remained unbeaten on 52, while Wiaan Mulder stayed not out on 12, taking the team’s total to 315.
For Afghanistan, Mohammad Nabi took 2 wickets, while Azmatullah Omarzai, Noor Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up one wicket each.

Between the 32nd and 39th overs, South Africa failed to score a single boundary, thanks to the tight bowling of Afghanistan’s spinners Noor Ahmad, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Nabi, who effectively slowed down the flow of runs.

After the dismissal of Rassie van der Dussen, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi maintained their dominance, ensuring that South Africa could not hit a boundary for seven overs straight.
