Speaking in a program, Wasim Akram emphasized that the current team consists of the best players, and claims of selections based on personal connections are baseless.
“If you want my honest opinion, in our culture, we say these are our boys, don’t criticize them. But I firmly believe they are our best players. If there was someone better, they would have been selected,” said the former captain. He added that people often chant “Parchi, Parchi” (a term used to imply favoritism in selection), but at this level, such things do not work.
It is worth mentioning that all-rounder Khushdil Shah was subjected to chants of “Parchi” from spectators in the stadium, which he later stated had led him into depression. Similarly, Pakistan’s opening batsman Fakhar Zaman, who was ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to injury, was replaced by Imam-ul-Haq, who also faces similar criticism from fans due to being the nephew of legendary batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq.
